The film ‘Rediscovering the Country’ promoting landscape restoration made by Ballarat Region Treegrowers/Australian Forest Growers and She Oaks Films will have its local launch in Ballarat on 4 July, 12.30pm.
The launch location is the ground floor lecture theatre in the Old Chemistry Building on the City (School of Mines, Lydiard) Campus of Federation University. BYO lunch. Simon Ramsay, MLC for the Western Province of Victoria’s state parliament, will launch the film.
The film will be followed by a discussion with three of the film’s interviewees – Stephen Murphy (landcare consultant), Victoria Mack (Secretariat for International Landcare), Singarayer Florentine (Assoc Prof, Federation Univsersity).
The theme of the film is the importance of transforming rural landscapes through revegetation for environmental and economic benefits. Community collaboration needs to be at the heart of this transformation. The film presents some of the revegetation projects being conducted in south-east Australia and the regenerative agriculture/analog forestry activities in Sri Lanka. It contains interviews of farmers and landowners, academics, Landcare proponents, as well as promoters and practitioners of analog forestry/regenerative agriculture.
AFG wants this film to strengthen community support for the improved management of rural lands by increasing awareness within rural and urban communities of how revegetation and integration of biologically rich and commercially valuable plantings into farming operations can help tackle land management problems and contribute to rural communities.
The film’s website contains information about the film project, including videos of interview extracts. The film will be available for free download through this site.
