Watch out for echidnas

Example of echidna diggings

After seeing the third dead echidna on the side of the road, the victim of death by car, I thought I would put out a warning to look out for them. They are an elusive sort of animals that you rarely see in the bush but notice their activity.  They breed from the end of June to September so are on the move now.

Their eye sight is not very good and they move very slowly so when it comes to looking out for cars they don’t stand a chance.  A lot of cars have a low suspension so echidnas are often hit and killed. It is safer to drive around them.
